Purified polydimethylsiloxane is filler material that was used in the past and that is unfortunately still used today by unskilled personnel to give volume in certain areas of the body, the most common areas are face and buttocks.
Silicone oil, despite giving volume, causes multiple complications such as: Migration and granulomatous reactions that can occur within a week of injecting silicone or even after decades of the procedure. It also causes a disease called allogenosis, which is the body rejecting this foreign material thus giving clinical manifestations.
There are few indications to remove this material, including:
- Pain
- Migration
- Infection
- Spots
- Changes in skin texture
- Anti-aesthetic appearance of the buttock
- Product extrusion (through the skin)
Dr. Adrián Uribe does not recommend injecting liquid silicone into any patient to give volume, also do not remove it in case of no symptoms. Much more information should be known and discussed during a consultation with Dr. Adrian.
